The WordPress TimThumb Zero Day Vulnerability

Most premium (and many free) WordPress themes include the TimThumb script to resize and manipulate the images you upload to your website. Unfortunately, a serious flaw in the script was discovered last week by Mark Maunder which could result in your website having unspeakable things done to it, by allowing hackers to upload and execute arbitrary PHP code in your timthumb cache directory.

An updated timthumb script has just been released. To ensure that no client’s website is compromised, we have started replacing all timthumb.php files on all our servers with the updated script. Some theme authors rename the timthumb.php script (WooThemes, for example, calls it “thumb.php”) and we’ll be searching for these variants and replacing them with the updated script as well.

Because the updated timthumb.php is fully backwards-compatible, your website will continue to function as before.

We expect to have all timthumb scripts replaced with the new version by tomorrow morning. If you’d like to check if your timthumb.php (or thumb.php) file has been updated, you can view the file’s contents and look for the following text at the top of the file:

If you see the “UPDATED BY TEXO TECH SUPPORT” line, then your file has been updated.
